Smile – a poem about………..

Walking past you, I smile.

Why do you run a mile?

What did I do wrong?

Did I offend you somehow?

Relax, it’s not a signal of intent,

Nothing more than goodwill meant,

Just trying to be civil,

Can you recall when that was cool?

I’m just being polite,

There was a time when that was right,

Now, we have to walk on by.

Portraits of ignorance so very rude.

Please, just once in a while,

Pass by someone and smile.

I’m sure that it really won’t hurt,

Might even make you feel good inside.
